Prime time, homelessnes and Health and Safety
Some became homeless after they lost their job and their landlord would not accept HAP. A lot of landlords will not accept HAP.
We did a post on this before. That it is illegal for a landlord to refuse HAP.
One family in emergency accommodation were not allowed put up Christmas decorations because they are a "fire hazard". Christmas lights that are not used properly or that do not meet safety standards can be a fire hazard. Lights that do meet safety standards and that are used properly are no more a fire hazard than any of the other things people normally do in their home.
One family staying in one room could not give their child a bed because he would then be blocking a fire exit. Having precautions and regulations for fire safety is fair enough. So is it important for a child to have a proper bed.
In my experience people that use Health and Safety as an excuse for things are often people that have no qualifications in Health and Safety and know nothing about it.
Verbal complaints or 'they know about it' usually results in nothing. Nothing really changes unless you complain properly.
